Safety in the water

Today we went swimming in our clothes!!

We looked at safety in the water and what would happen if we fell in the water in our clothes.

We found:
- Clothes made swimming harder as it was heavier and pulled you down.
- It was hard trying to take the clothes off in water without touching the bottom or holding onto the side.
- Long sleeve tops and trousers were harder to take off
- depending on the type of material it would be harder (cotton vs denim)

What we can do:
- Think about wearing appropriate clothes near the water e.g. no denim (jeans), no wool, long sleeves and pants are more difficult. The heavier the material the more it will drag you down
- When in a boat wear a lifejacket (always!!!)
- dry fit  and polar fleece clothing would be suitable
- Always THINK when by the water.

Room 9 water safety slogans:
- Safety in the water is what I tell my daughter!
- Be Safe. Be Sound. Don't Drown.
- # Good kids be safe in water
- Don't be a clown or else you'll drown!
- If your boat won't float, wear a life coat
